The Remorseful Weekend
A celebration of the filming of The Remorseful Day plus the launch of the first Inspector Morse beer and a plaque unveiling at Brakspear’s Brewery by Colin Dexter
Oxford, Henley, Denham, Marlow, Burford, Woodstock & Blenheim
This year our annual weekend excursion will be exploring the locations used in The Remorseful Day plus a special launch. For early arrivers there will be a pub crawl on the Friday evening, via minibus, to some of the lesser visited public houses frequented by Morse.
On the Saturday the Society has been invited back to Brakspear’s Brewery in lovely Henley for the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the filming of The Sins of the Father in which the brewery was transformed into Radley’s. Colin Dexter will be with us for the weekend and will perform the unveiling ceremony. To celebrate, or mourn, Inspector Morse a new beer will also be launched, samples of which will be available for inbibing. Lunch will also be taken in Henley after which some of the filming locations at Fawley, Little Marlow, Gerrards Cross and Denham will be explored.
Afternoon tea with time to explore the beautiful village of Denham will be allowed before return to Oxford. Unlike previous years no group accommodation is provided, though discount rates can be obtained at The Randolph should any members wish to stay at this famous Morse location. Dinner will be taken at The Oxford Union where Colin Dexter will talk about The Remorseful Day. It is also hoped to have others associated with the production as our guests. Dress for dinner this year will be more informal i.e. lounge suit.
Sunday will continue our exploration of filming locations with a tour of Bicester, Bullingdon Prison and the picturesque town of Burford. Following a tour of the town museum, lunch will be served at the splendid Bay Tree Hotel in Sheep Street. In the afternoon a guided tour of Blenheim Palace, used in several episodes, will be made prior to a final afternoon tea at The Bear.
