‘Yes you see Mr Holmes, I have been witness to a horrible and grisly murder…’ And so begins an adventure that will take Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson to the very door of an aristocratic gentleman who seems to be thoroughly implicated in cold-blooded murder.

This is the first collection of Eddie Maguire’s short stories but it will come as no surprise to the reader that they are created with a love of the subject and close attention to the era, in which Holmes worked and flourished.

One of Eddie Maguire’s greatest fans is the noted cricket expert Freddie Trueman who said of Death at the Cricket, the second story in this collection, ‘This story really brings to life the big house cricket matches of the 19th century’.

Eddie Maguire was born in Croydon in 1950 and after a variety of jobs, six years ago fell prey to the scourge of disability (in body if not in mind and spirit) but discovered writing as a new way of expressing himself. He now lives in Somerset with his wife Mary and four cats.
